Privacy Policy
Effective date: 16 April 2026
DebtBurn (“the app”) is built with privacy as a first principle. This policy explains exactly what data the app handles, where it goes, and what choices you have.
Summary
- Your financial data never leaves your device. Debt names, balances, interest rates, and payment history are stored locally in a private database on your phone.
- No accounts. No login. No tracking. We don’t have user accounts, advertising, or analytics that profile you.
- The only data that ever leaves your device is anonymous crash reports (if a crash occurs), and content you explicitly choose to share or export.
What data DebtBurn stores on your device
The app stores the following information locally, on your device only, in a private database that is not accessible to other apps:
- Names you give your debts (e.g. “Credit Card”, “Car Loan”)
- Balances, interest rates, and minimum payments you enter
- Payment history you log
- Custom milestones you create
- Your preferences (currency, payment frequency, notification setting, app lock setting)
This data stays on your device. It is not transmitted to us or any third party, except in the limited cases listed below.
What leaves your device
Crash reports (Sentry)
If the app crashes, a technical error report is sent to our crash-reporting service, Sentry, hosted in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany).
These reports contain:
- The error message and stack trace
- The device model and operating system version
- The app version
They do not contain your debt names, balances, payment history, or any other information you’ve entered.
Crash reports are used solely to diagnose and fix bugs. You can read Sentry’s privacy policy at https://sentry.io/privacy/.
Crash reporting is enabled only in production builds. You cannot opt out individually within the app, but you can prevent it by uninstalling the app.
Content you choose to share
Some features in DebtBurn allow you to share information yourself:
- Export your data (Settings → Privacy & Data → Export your data) — creates a JSON file and opens your device’s share sheet so you can save or send it. You control where it goes.
- Share milestone / celebration — opens the share sheet with a short text message. You choose the recipient.
- Send feedback — opens your email app pre-filled with a message to the developer. You choose to send it.
In all of these cases, no data is sent until you explicitly take action.
What we don’t do
DebtBurn does not:
- Collect personal information such as your name, email, phone number, or address
- Use accounts, login, or sign-up
- Use third-party advertising or advertising identifiers
- Track you across other apps or websites
- Use analytics tools that profile your behaviour
- Sell, rent, or share your data with anyone
- Have a backend server that stores your information
Permissions DebtBurn requests
The app may request the following device permissions:
- Notifications — only if you enable payment reminders in Settings. Used to remind you to log payments. You can disable this at any time in Settings or in your device’s notification settings.
- Biometric authentication (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint) — only if you enable App Lock in Settings. Used solely to unlock the app. The biometric check happens entirely on your device; no biometric data is transmitted or stored by DebtBurn.
Children’s privacy
DebtBurn is not directed at children under 13. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Your rights and choices
Because all your financial data stays on your device, you have full control:
- Delete a debt — Tap the × next to any debt to remove it and its payment history.
- Export your data — Settings → Privacy & Data → Export your data.
- Delete everything — Uninstall the app. This removes all locally stored data permanently. There is no cloud copy to delete.
In-app purchases
If a future version of the app introduces paid features, those purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). DebtBurn does not see or store your payment details. Apple’s and Google’s privacy policies govern those transactions.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the effective date at the top and post the new version at the same URL. Significant changes will be noted in the app’s release notes.
